Onissa S. Mitchell is a Family Nurse Practitioner who specializes in primary health care. She has a heart for the under-served/vulnerable populations, nursing students, and those struggling to reach their educational and career goals. She serves as a mentor/coach to nurses, nursing students, and nurse practitioner students as they navigate through their healthcare professions.
Onissa is an active member of the national organization Black Nurses Rock where she was awarded the 2018 Advanced Practice Nurse of the Year Award. More recently, she was awarded 2019 Difference Maker Award from Dominique Cares, a Non-profit organization who provides support, resources, services and hope to individuals with Autism and other disabilities along with their families. Onissa is a Community Educator for the Alzheimer’s Association, an Ambassador for the American Heart Association, as well as an Ambassador for the American Sexual Health Association.
She is the owner of Healing Hearts CPR where she teaches lifesaving skills and courses to both healthcare providers and the public. Onissa offers a variety of courses to ensure healthcare professionals stay abreast of the latest updates and innovations within the healthcare arena. She also speaks at community events on various prevalent health issues that affect vulnerable populations.
Onissa is the mother of 2 handsome young men and resides in Tyler, Texas where she’s actively involved in her community and church.
